Hi, I’m Marc Counterman.
Marc is the founder of Advising Sync LLC and a data analyst who builds workflow and reporting systems in the Microsoft ecosystem.
As a former pre-health advisor at Penn State, Marc focused on bringing more structure and better data into the advising process. In addition to building the AdvisingSync letter workflow, he has presented on how advising teams can work effectively with AAMC data to support planning and decision-making.
He created AdvisingSync to give advising teams a reliable, institution-owned way to manage letters without adding staff burden, while staying budget-conscious and keeping everything inside the tools schools already use.
My Approach
AdvisingSync was built to solve a common problem in pre-health advising: managing letters of recommendation with too many emails, spreadsheets, and manual follow-ups.
It started as an internal Microsoft 365 workflow and has since been implemented and refined across multiple application cycles.
AdvisingSync runs entirely inside an institution’s existing Microsoft 365 environment, so schools keep ownership of the process and the data.
Built for advisors.
The system is dynamic enough to fit any workflow without adding to the advisers workload. It does exactly what advisers need it to because it was built by an advisor for advisors.
The best part about the system? It just works.
Security first.
As an internal workflow, Advising Sync never sees your data. All student records are kept internal, and an annual FERPA release is required to complete requests.
All actions are logged with the system, from requests to status checks.
